Premiere: Get Drenched in Poisoned Puss with Death-Black Metal project Sonum
It isn't that often that I just drop a hefty dose of good-ole fashioned, poisonous to the touch, toxic to the ears, blackened death metal. Mostly because, as readers of this unholy space know, that shit bores the living daylight out of my soul. But every now and again someone goes ahead and does it right, as is the case with the new upcoming album by Italian band Sonum. Do you get the blast-beat fest of your twisted dreams? You do. Do you get the riff equivalent of a 0-60 run (or 0-100, for all ye non-Americans)? You do. But you also get beautiful, weird dissonant atmospheres, and quiet melodies and all that good shit that makes the top-tier black metal bands what they are (I'm thinking here of early Djevel or even the most recent Abduction).
Sonum's new album The Obscure Light Awaits arrives April 11 via Dusktone, and you can check out the new single + video for said single "In this Void We Dwell" right about here (see link below).
If you're new to this metal blog of bones you can also check out the various interview projects I have going on as well as the weekly recommendation posts. And if you'd like to keep abreast of the latest, most pressing developments follow us wherever I may roam (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Spotify, Bluesky, etc), and listen to my, I guess, active? (no) podcast (YouTube, Spotify, Apple), and to check out our amazing compilation albums. You could also possibly support my unholy work here (Patreon), if you feel like it. Early access to our bigger projects, weekly exclusive recommendations and playlists, and that wonderful feeling that you're encouraging a life-consuming habit. It's probably a bad idea, but to each their own. Keep safe.
