Album Premiere: Ride the Fiery Dragon with the newest from Doom Outfit Tar Pit

There are many things you might not see that much around here, including, but not limited to: Tasteful writing, short, curt sentences, and, obviously, trad doom that somberly dances on the borderline with honest-to-God stoner. The main reason – for the latter – is how hit and miss I often feel that whole area can be, and how worshippy to the point of copy-y it can get. There are, of course, exceptions, such as the great Nubivagant, but not that many.

Well, Portland's Tar Pit is one such standout case. They've nailed – perhaps not a doomy enough metaphorical adjective – candelabra-ed that neigh impossible sweet spot between the occult and the rockin', or between the sombre atmosphere of classic doom and the desire to mount the nearest horse and kick someone's ass. Their newest album, the magnificent Scrying the Angel Gate, is coming out tomorrow via the equally magnificent Transylvanian Recordings (formerly Transylvanian Tapes, I guess they make more than tapes these days!) and is, to my humble ears, the best of its kind this year.

You can check out this wonderful album in full right now, ahead of its official release tomorrow, and you can, and should, throw your money directly into their clothes. Do so.
