לכתוב בלוג על מוזיקה זה דבר מוזר. לכתוב בלוג על מטאל זה עוד יותר מוזר. ולכתוב בלוג על סוג המטאל שאני כותב עליו, וכותב עליו כבר זמן מה, זה הכי מוזר שאפשר לדמיין. אבל בדרך פלאית שאני לא לחלוטין מבין, אני עדיין עושה את זה. הפוסט הראשון בבלוג צנוע זה יצא לאוויר במאי 2010, והיה למעשה תגובה לביטול המתוקשר דאז של ההופעה של הפיקסיז. עד לנקודה ההיא חשבתי ודיברתי ובעיקר שמעתי ונהניתי מוזיקה כל חיי. ההחלטה להתחיל לכתוב על מוזיקה הייתה דרמטית, אבל, שוב, איכשהוא החזיקה מעמד כמעט תשע שנים. בתשע השנים האלה התכנים של הבלוג השתנו מעט, וליוו את החזרה האיטית שלי למטאל אחרי הפסקה של כמעט עשור, ולפעמים גם המיקום השתנה, כשאני מדלג מהבלוג פה לבלוג ב״הארץ״ וחזרה. בכל הזמן הזה לא הייתי בלוקבאסטר של קוראים, אני מבין את זה. ועוד יותר מבין למה. אם הלהקות שאני אוהב כל כך ושמחיות אותי כל יום מארגנות לעצמן 20 אנשים בקהל בלחץ אז הדביל שכותב עליהם לא הולכת להיות סטיבן קינג של עולם הבלוגים על מוזיקה. אבל בכל הזמן הזה תמיד היו אנשים יקרים שכן קראו, שתמכו, שנתנו מילה טובה פה שם, וזה הספיק. יותר מהספיק. זה היה הכל.
אז עכשיו קוראים כמה דברים בו זמנית ששניהם פונקציה של הזמן. הזמן שהוא מה שעומד תכף להיות השנה העשירית של מאשין מיוזיק בעולם, וסוף העשור הנוכחי, שניהן הזדמנויות מעולות לקצת מבט לאחור וקצת לנסות לתת למי שקרא עד היום ויקרא מהיום משהו שהוא קצת, אני חושב מעבר. אז הדבר הזה שאני מדבר עליו, שאליו הכותרת של פוסט זה מרמזת, הוא סדרה של פוסטים וכתבות, שיצאו בערך כל שבועיים מעכשיו ועד תחילת השנה הבאה, על האלבומים שעיצבו את הטעם שלי ואת חיי במהלך העשור בין 2010-2020 ,עם כמה חריגות מכובדות לכמה אלבומים שהיו חשובים עבורי בזמן לקראת פתיחת הבלוג ושיצאו ב-2009. כל אחד מהפוסטים האלו יכלול תיאור של האלבום והמשמעות שלו עבורי ועבור הבלוג ובמקרים רבים גם ראיון קצר/ארוך עם האמן/נים עצמם שמדברים, לפעמים בפעם הראשונה, על המחשבות שלהם, הציפיות שלהם, והזכרונות שלהם מאותם אלבומים. חלק מהפרקים יכללו שיפוצים קלים לראיונות שכבר פורסמו בעבר, אבל הרוב המוחלט יהיה ראיונות חדשים שקיימתי לצורך הפרוייקט הזה.
אני לא חושב שאני צריך להסביר עד כמה עבודה, מאמץ, והתרגשות יש בליזום סדרה כזו, בסדר גודל כזה, באורך כזה, וכל מה שקשור בזה. ואולי זו השקעה דיס-פרופורציונלית לבלוג עלום שם שרק כמה אנשים יקרים מאוד קוראים. אבל בשבילי אלה החיים. ואולי החיים זה משהו ששווה להשקיע בו. אי לכך ובהתאם לזאת כמה הודעות פרוצדורליות:
- הפוסט הזה ישרת למעשה כמקום שירכז את כל הפוסטים העתידיים והראיונות, וממנו יהיו לינקים לגרסה העברית (שתעלה בבלוג ב״הארץ״) והגרסה האנגלית, שתעלה פה. אני יודע שזה כאב ראש כל הכפל הלשוני הזה, אבל אני חושב שמן הראוי להנגיש את החומרים האלה גם לאנשים שלא דוברים עברית, אז סליחה ותודה מראש.
- כמו תמיד, תכנים נוספים, נלווים, והערות ומה לא יהיו גם בדף הפייסבוק של הבלוג. למי שלא יודע/לא עשה לייק – הנה הוא פה.

Writing a music blog is a strange decision. Writing a blog about metal is even stranger. And writing a blog about the type of metal I write about, and have been writing about it for some time, that's probably the strangest thing there is. But miraculously, I don't completely understand how, I'm still at it. This blog's first post was released in May 2010, and was in effect a response to the then-publicized cancellation of a Pixies show in Israel. Until that point I thought and talked and mainly heard and enjoyed music all my life. The decision to start writing about music was a dramatic one, but, again, it has lasted for almost nine years. During these nine years, the content of the blog has somewhat shifted, accompanying my slow return to metal after a break of nearly a decade, and sometimes the placement has changed as I skip from the blog here to the blog in Haaretz and back. All this time I was not a blockbuster of readers, I understand that. And even more understand why. If the bands that I love so much and make me happy every day can't get more than 20 people to come to their shows, who am I, the gooffball who writes about those bands, to complain about not being the Stephen King of the metal blogosphere.
But all this time there were always dear people who did read, support, who spared a good word now and again, and that was enough. More than enough. It was everything. So now a few things are happening, all of which have to do with time. The onset of the tenth year of Machine Music in the world as well as the end of the current decade, both great opportunities for a bit of hindsight and a bit of trying to give back to those who read to this day and read something that is a bit, I think, extra.
So the thing I'm talking about, to which the title of this post alluded to, is a series of posts and articles that will come out hopefully regularly every two weeks from now until the beginning of next year on the albums that shaped my taste and my life during the decade between 2010-2020, with a small minority of albums that were important to me in the period before unleashing this blog, in 2009. Each of these posts will include a description of the album and its meaning for me and for the blog, and in many cases a short / long interview with the artists themselves who speak, for the first time, about their thoughts, expectations, and memories of those albums.
I do not think I have to explain how much work, effort, and enthusiasm goes into a series of this length and breadth. But for me this is life. And maybe life is something worth investing in.
Therefore, some procedural messages before we get to the business (in a few days):
— This post will serve as the launching page of sorts that will be updated with links to the various chapters of this odyssey, both to the Hebrew versions that will go up at the Haaretz blog, as well as the English versions that will be housed right here. I know that it is a headache for all this dual-lingual thing, and I know it can be frustrating to deal with all this illegible stuff, but I'm trying my best to make this material accessible to as many people as I can, so please excuse the odd messiness.
