Whatever intro

Whatever "follow me on this or that social network" platitude.

1. Bedouin Temple – "Tomorrow," from Bedouin Temple (Experimental Whatever – Whatever label). A very lucky Bandcamp find. Very moving, extended, droning experimental music peppered with moments of real, almost doom-like heaviness. I liked it. FFO: Whatever.

2. Ringarë – "Of Mages and Mystics," from Of Momentous Endless Night (Black Metal – Whatever label, ok Avantgarde Music). Alex Poole (bunch of bands, google it) is a genius, feeling musician and one of the most creative and wonderful musicians alive, in any medium or genre. I literally could not stop listening to just this one track. Unbelievable, and a sure-fire (trigger warning) AOTY-level album. Astounding. FFO: Whatever.

3. Blood Oath – "Sanctuary of Souls," from Lost in an Eternal Silence (Death Metal – Caligali or whatever). I'm sure a normal person in my predicament would take the week off. I actually want to take the week off, I want to just quit for one week and mourn or do what normal people do under these fucked up circumstances. Yesterday I took my 5-year-old son (soon to be six), who by the way rules, to a b-day party. We drove there, there was an air-raid siren, I tried to stay calm, I pulled over slowly, took care to speak as calmly as I could, and told him to get out of the car. We looked for an open building and we saw a door ajar and got in, just as very loud bangs went overhead (air defense system and incoming rockets). I held him inside and we waited to see everything was ok with another lady who wandered in with her dog, and I asked him if he was OK and he said yes and I asked him if he still wanted to go to the party and he said yes so we went. I have every reason to drop everything and just rot. But I suspect if I do I won't get up, and I can't afford that luxury. Blood Oath is the kind of death metal albums you hope for when you listen to new music. Very, to me, a-la Morbus Chron and Chapel of Disease. A huge and very positive surprise for me. FFO: Fuck off and die. Btw, when we got back from the party my son, going up the stairs to our apartment, asked me what the difference between "brain" and "mind." That's how much he rules.

4. Infant Island – "Another Cycle," from Obsidian Wreath (Screamo/Hardcore – Secret Voice). Infant Island are a wonderful band and I am very happy they're putting out a new album. Zero reason for there to be this much merch on your BC page, dudes. Song rips though. FFO: Violence.

5. Kausis – "II," from I (Atmospheric Black Metal – Independent, I think). Very lovely, organic sounding kind of in that Quebecois way atmospheric black metal that sounds both dirty and also screamo-y in a way. Which is a great thing. Good. FFO: Whatever.

6. Prieuré – "Le départ," from Le départ (Melodic Black Metal – Whatever). Very lovely melodic black metal I kind of dug up (apologies) because I couldn't find enough albums in that vein for my year-end list. Very happy I did. Emotive, cutting, and super cool black metal. Good for everyone! FFO: Whatever

7. Ild – "Opp i røyk," from Kvern (Weird-ass Black Metal – Vendetta). I briefly mentioned this band a while back in one of my posts back when I was a tad saner. Very happy to see them release new music. A really intriguing mix of experimental, field recording stuff with driving, powerful black metal. Awesome. FFO: Stuff.

8. Fuck it, I'm done. Listen to Vastun.
